Sam is a multi-skilled technical theatre student who has developed his skills in the area whilst working on a wide range of events. In this statement Sam will share his experiences in each of the technical areas within event and theatre production. As well as learning about his key interests and background in his industry experiences.

"Camerawork and event production has been my passion from the age of 11, when I completed a taster session of the industry with BBC Radio 1, and have since attended numerous TV show and event recordings, from the X Factor to TV game shows and award events to see how the whole process works from start to finish. I have met professionals already in industry such as cameramen, boom operators and runners in order to get as much information as possible to gain an understanding of what you must do in order to get within the TV business. From the information I have collected I have learnt that the best way to get into the entertainments industry is through hard work and experience.

Since gaining this advice from the industry professionals I have worked tirelessly to study the correct camera shots, angles and movements for a variety of events and venues. I have also invested in my own professional recording camera which allows me to record and capture a range of different events from recording weddings to filming and editing promotional material for a children's entertainment company based in Essex.

I have even been booked to film for local festivals capturing their promotional material and highlights of their events.

In the past few years I have provided sound and live mixing for a variety of shows and performances. From working with Colin Fry on his 2014 tour, to running a 16 channel mixer for a church group every week working with a variety of singers and musical internments and working out the sound balance between each performer so that everyone can be heard and all the sounds smoothly blend together.

More recently  I have created a music company where he provided music to a variety of local festivals and birthday parties. This meant that I not only had to provide music appropriate to a variety of ages but also providing a sound and PA system.

Another skill I have developed is that of a strong production manager as I have managed a crew of college students to assist me with a secondary schools production of Bugsy Malone. This job role included filling out any essential paper work, keeping the crew in the lope as to when rehearsals and show dates were and also teaching them how to work the different sound and lighting boards. (Yamaha LS9, Leapfrog Zero 99)

My services have also been used by The Backstage Centre, where I worked with the band “Youth Club” for the Creative and Cultural Skills Awards evening. And in September this year I was given the chance to work as a runner and show crew on a major Channel 4 production.

It is my priority to give more than my best in whatever tasks I am given and if I do not know how to do something I will either find out from a colleague who may know or use my initiative to solve any challenge that stands in my way.

My career in event filming and editing has grown locally for many years and I am now hoping to be given the chance to learn the ropes from a proper events and production company within the TV and entertainment industry to get his foot in the door and develop his career even further into the industry where I want to spend the rest of my working career."

we naturally light our own way.”
